December 22, 2006

Detroit casino developer Don Barden was awarded a license to build a $450 million casino in Pittsburgh’s North Shore.  Barden’s PITG Gaming LLC (PITG) license was one of five slots licenses given to standalone parlors, while the remaining six licenses are earmarked for Pennsylvania’s horse-racing tracks. The PITG license allows up to 5,000 slot machines, making it one of the three largest operators in Pennsylvania.

December 13, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released November 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $40,747,283.03, $39,775,896.44 and $27,759,222.50 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for November 2006 were $108,282,401.97.  

December 4, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (“Board”) held a special meeting and voted 3-0 to adopt Board Resolution 2006-03. The Resolution delegates certain responsibilities of the executive director to Mr. Thomas A. Barker. Barker is the current deputy director of administration for the Board and will continue to serve in this capacity. The Board adopted the Resolution following the resignation of Executive Director Daniel Gustafson in November 2006.

November 14, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released October 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $39,650,357.26, $37,334,441.41 and $25,895,109.77 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for October 2006 were $102,879,908.44.

October 10, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released September 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $41,646,712.95, $38,893,739.65 and $29,297,276.67 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for September 2006 were $109,837,729.27.

September 29, 2006

MotorCity Casino announced that in October it will begin converting all of its slot machines to ticket-in, ticket-out technology. Thus, the casino expects to lay off about 130 workers. The layoffs represent less than five percent of the casino’s 2,000 employees. According to a press release by MotorCity, “under the terms of the current collective bargaining agreement with the Detroit Casino Council, affected associates have first opportunity to return (recall rights) should positions become available.” 

September 19, 2006

Michigan Gaming Control Board Executive Director Dan Gustafson will succeed Reginald Carter as President and CEO of the Health Care Association of Michigan. Gustafson will begin serving as president and CEO on Nov. 27, 2006. Gustafson’s appointment as executive director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board was slated to run until November 2008.

September 12, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released August 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $41,516,202.18, $38,906,972.15 and $28,247,544.08 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for August 2006 were $108,670,718.41.

August 10, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released July 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $40,447,175.20, $40,668,778.66 and $28,956,884.11 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for July 2006 were $110,072,837.9

August 8, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board granted approval to Greektown Casino for their $200 million permanent casino project. Greektown stated that its 3,000-space parking structure will open in mid-2007, while officials anticipate a September 2008 opening of the casino complex.

July 12, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released June 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $40,735,940.50, $38,415,572.47 and $27,069,221.57 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for June 2006 were $106,220,734.54.

June 12, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released May 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $39,218,226.27, $38,143,626.11 and $29,958,489.80 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for May 2006 were $107,320,342.18. Revenue for MotorCity Casino was up by 4.8%, while revenue for MGM Grand Detroit and Greektown Casino was down by 0.62% and 1.27% respectively compared to the same month last year.

July 9, 2006

City of Detroit leaders and Greektown Casino owners and managers gathered for the “Building Bashing” ceremony that marked the beginning of construction on the permanent Greektown Casino resort. The project’s total budget is $475 million, including $275 million already invested in the current Greektown Casino and $200 million for the new permanent project.

May 12, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released April 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $41,504,985.21, $36,824,790.82 and $27,632,204.50 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for April 2006 were $105,961,980.53. Revenues for MGM Grand Detroit Casino and Greektown Casino were up by 7.61% and 2.31% respectively, while revenue for MotorCity Casino was down 4.49%, compared to the same month last year.

April 12, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released March 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $41,491,719.32, $40,939,645.43 and $32,215,130.56 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for March 2006 were $114,646,495.31. Revenues for MGM Grand Detroit Casino, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casino were up by 1.53%, 1.54% and 12.74% respectively, compared to the same month last year. 

March 16, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released February 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $41,160,376.69, $37,979,163.22 and $29,971,114.97 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for February 2006 were $109,110,654.88. Revenues for MGM Grand Detroit Casino, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casino were up by 3.87%, 5.04% and 11.25% respectively, compared to the same month last year.

February 7, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released January 2006 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casinos reported total adjusted revenues of $38,774,811.05, $37,755,047.98 and $27,814,929.85 respectively. The three Detroit casinos' Total Adjusted Gross Receipts for January 2006 were $104,344,788.88. Revenues for Greektown Casino and MotorCity Casino were up by 7.29% and 4.92% respectively, while MGM Grand Detroit Casino was down .47%, compared to the same month last year.

January 11, 2006

The Michigan Gaming Control Board released the December 2005 Total Adjusted Revenue for the three Detroit casinos. MGM Grand Detroit Casino's December 2005 total adjusted revenue was $39,877,047.85 compared to $38,258,019.27 in November 2005; MotorCity Casino's December 2005 total adjusted revenue was $35,403,665.04 compared to $33,627,466.92 in November 2005; and Greektown Casino's December 2005 total adjusted revenue was $29,347,001.05 compared to $28,314,520.86 in November 2005. Total 2005 revenue for each of the three Detroit casinos was: MGM Grand Detroit: $460,697,859.89; MotorCity Casino: $432,212,661.34; and Greektown Casino: $335,633,365.40. The three Detroit casinos' 2005 Total Adjusted Gross Receipts totaled $1,228,543,886.63 and the Total State Wagering Tax was $148,653,810.27.
