On Friday, October 30, 2015, the Executive Director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board (“MGCB”) granted live racing dates to Hazel Park Raceway and Northville Downs. In addition to live racing dates, both locations were awarded a simulcast permit that authorizes the tracks to simulcast races throughout the year. The awards came after a public hearing and comment on each track’s application.

Hazel Park Raceway has been awarded thirty days of live Thoroughbred and Mixed Breed race dates for next year. Live racing will be held on Fridays and Saturdays between Friday, May 27 and Saturday, September 3, with at least nine live races per race date.

Northville Downs has been awarded sixty days of live Standardbred horse racing during 2016. The races will be held on Fridays and Saturdays between Friday, March 18 and Saturday, October 8. Each racing day will include at least nine live races.

In addition, Northville Downs was denied its request to run Thoroughbred and Mixed Breed races in 2016. The Executive Director’s Order states that the request was denied as Northville Downs “and the Michigan Horsemen’s Benevolent and Mixed Breed Protective Association have terminated their agreement to race Thoroughbred and Mixed Breed Horses at Northville Downs.” Under state law, tracks must have an agreement with a certified horsemen’s association in charge of the specific type of racing in order to conduct that type of racing.
