The Lansing State Journal reported on Tuesday, August 28th, that the Lansing City Council adopted a new ordinance setting penalties for illegal gambling operations (90 days in Jail and a fine of no more than $500).  A similar ordinance was initially proposed earlier this summer.  That version went down to a vote of 4-1 on August 13th.  However, sponsor City Council Member Adam Hussain continued to push the initiative and was ultimately successful.

Under provisions of the Ordinance, City of Lansing Police will now have the authority to investigation illegal gambling operations with the goal of preventing store front gambling operations from operating. Historically, the City of Lansing has relied exclusively on the Michigan Attorney General’s office to enforce state gambling laws within the city limits. According to the Council Member the new Ordinance will provide another tool for local law enforcement.
